Blog Tips Newsletter by Yaro Starak
Your blog should be like a
spider's web, with each article
linking to other articles in
your blog.
This technique can deliver some
nice traffic benefits. Here's how
to do it...
---------------------
Hi Norm,
Last issue of this newsletter I covered trackbacks
and how to use them as a blog traffic building
tool. This newsletter we're going to start with
the trackback's distant cousin, the pingback and
then move to an interesting technique for building
traffic - interlinking.
WHAT IS A PINGBACK?
In some circles I've read there is no difference
between a trackback and a pingback. Many people
will use the term interchangeably and in fact I've
been known to confuse the two myself.
Generally there is one main difference - a
trackback is forced by a human blogger while a
pingback occurs automatically by the blogging
software.
I read a description online which I think is a
good way to discern the difference however I don't
agree 100% with the distinction presented. It does
offer a simple way to get your head around the
semantics of using the two techniques -
Where trackback is "Here's what I think of that" a
pingback is more simply "I'm using that".
Trackbacks are intentional attention grabbers that
give an opinion of another blogger's work. A
pingback merely informs another blog that you are
referencing their writing.
INTERNAL PINGBACKS
I experience pingbacks when I reference to my own
blog posts within my blog. I use the blogging
system WordPress which automatically sends
pingbacks if I link to one of my previous
articles, creating a link between the two blog
entries.
Linking between your own articles is a good thing,
and certainly pingbacking your own entries helps
make the process efficient because it's automatic,
but there is a lot more you can do proactively to
create links between your own blog posts. As with
most things in blogging, there is a "smarter way".
WHAT IS INTERLINKING?
Interlinking means when you link one of your own
pages to another internally within a website.
Since you control your site you can control your
blog's entire internal linking structure. This is
important for traffic because of how search
engines work.
If you want the search engines to rank every
single page of your blog you need to make sure
they can find every page.
Search engines use little software programs called
"spiders" or "bots" that trawl around the web
following links and "indexing" all the content
of web pages.
If your site is internally linked well together
then you make it easy for the little spiders to
index every page of your blog.
SITEMAPS
I will briefly mention sitemaps because they are a
convenient way to tell the search engines where
all your pages are. Most search engines do a
pretty good job of finding pages but sometimes
they have trouble indexing your entire site,
especially if your site is new.
I'm not going to cover sitemaps in-depth because
it is a whole topic on its own, however I do
recommend you have one as the first step to create
a good internal linking structure for your blog.
Here are some resources for building and learning
more about sitemaps:
- If you are a WordPress user like me, install the
Google Sitemap generator plugin (Link:

GOOGLE LOOKS AT WEB PAGES, NOT WEB SITES
Google ranks pages based on how many other pages
link to it. That's PAGES, not SITES, which means
when you link one blog entry to another you are
helping each blog article earn better search
engine rankings so it will bring in more search
traffic.
Simply linking to all your blog posts in every new
blog post you make is not going to do much for your
traffic and will turn away your readers (not a good
strategy!), however a few well placed internal linking
patterns can be very helpful over the long term.
During the first few months I blogged I wrote
definition articles for many key terms in my
industry, including RSS, PageRank and other
Internet business and blogging topics.
I regularly link back to those articles when I
mention the terms in a new blog post so that
beginner readers can read my definition article to
get a grasp of the concepts. Not only is this
great for usability it helps my blog search
rankings too.
GET YOUR KEYWORDS AND PHRASES RIGHT
The most important thing when you link your blog
entries together is to choose the right keywords.
The keywords you use in the anchor text (the text
your readers see as underlined links) help to
define what search terms that article will rank
well for.
Lets say your blog topic is "share trading" and you
wrote a definition of the PE ratio (the
price-to-earnings ratio).
Every chance you get you should reference back to
it in new blog posts. Each time you do this you
would use anchor text along the lines of "what is
the PE ratio", but be certain to mix it up with
variations.
This helps that page rank higher for search
phrases like "what is the PE ratio".
INCREASE YOUR PAGEVIEWS
Even if I've totally confused you with all this
talk about search engine rankings there is one
very good plain and simple reason to interlink
your blog articles as often as you can - to
increase your pageviews.
Pageviews are how many individual pages each
visitor to your blog reads. Obviously you want to
increase the number of pageviews because that
means your readers stay longer at your blog and
read more of your content.
By interlinking your articles well, and that means
placing links between your own articles in a
logical manner, you create a nice pathway for a
reader to navigate through your blog.
COVER THE BASICS
Some of the topics I covered may be too technical
for beginner bloggers. If there is one piece of
advice you should take away from this newsletter
and implement on your blog it is to link back to
your previous blog posts regularly.
Use logical anchor text links and don't worry too
much about keywords. If you label your links well
for humans you generally label well for search
engines too. It's easy to get caught up with
keywords so don't spend too much energy worrying
about how you link to your articles, just do it.
Whenever you write a new article think whether it
would be appropriate to link to another article
that includes relevant content.
It takes two seconds and can provide fantastic
benefits in search engine rankings, pageview
numbers and increases the length of time each
visitor stays at your blog.

Hi Norm, from
Joanne Delaine
Here is your yoga exercise for
the day! This is a type
of hatha yoga breathing
and should only take a few
minutes.
Inhale a complete breath and
retain. Extend the arms straight
out in front of you, letting
them be somewhat limp and
relaxed, with only sufficient
nerve force to hold them out.
Slowly drawn the hands back
toward the shoulders, gradually
contracting the muscles and
putting force into them, so
that when they reach the
shoulders the fists will be
so tightly clenched that a
tremulous motion is felt.
Then, keeping the muscles tense,
push the fists slowly out,
and then draw them back rapidly,
while still tense, several times.
Exhale vigorously through the
mouth.
Good luck and good health!

Todays Topic: How To Build A Ripped, Rock-Solid Chest
===============
Hey Normz2,
Everyone wants a huge chest, plain and simple.
It is all too common to see inexperienced lifters slaving away
on endless sets of bench presses and cable crossovers in search
of full, thick pecs. The reality is that there is nothing
complicated about building an impressive chest.
The bottom line for huge chest gains is consistency, effort and
steady progression in weight and repetitions.
To stimulate the chest using weights you will be using one of
two motions: a press or a flye. If you want the greatest bang for
your buck from your chest workouts, the true gains lie in your
pressing movements.
Here are the most effective lifts for packing muscle onto the
chest:
1) Flat/Incline/Decline Barbell Bench Press
A standard barbell press is the meat and potatoes of any
effective chest routine. This basic compound movement will allow
you to handle the most weight through the given range of motion.
The incline press will shift more of the stress to the upper
region of the chest while the decline does the opposite,
targeting the lower/outer region. The flat bench press works the
upper and lower regions equally. I highly recommend a standard
barbell press as a basic component of your chest routine.
2) Flat/Incline/Decline Dumbbell Press
Dumbbell presses are another basic and highly effective movement
for stimulating chest development. The main advantage that they
have over the barbell is that they allow you to move through a
more natural range of motion, helping to prevent shoulder
injuries.
They also prevent strength imbalances from occurring since one
arm can't cheat for the other.
3) Wide-Grip Dips
An amazing movement for the chest that is often overlooked. Make
sure to use a wider grip and lean forward to shift the stress
from the triceps onto the pectorals.
If pressing your own body weight is not sufficient then you can
always add resistance using a weight belt.
**Sample Chest Routines**
Chest Routine# 1
Flat Barbell Bench Press: 2 sets of 5 to 7 reps
Incline Dumbbell Press: 2 sets of 5 to 7 reps
Wide-Grip Dips: 2 sets of 5 to 7 reps
Chest Routine# 2
Incline Barbell Bench Press: 2 sets of 5 to 7 reps
Wide-Grip Dips: 2 sets of 5 to 7 reps
Flat Dumbbell Press: 2 sets of 5 to 7 reps
All sets should stay within the 5-7 rep range and should be
taken to concentric muscular failure. Write down the details of
each workout you perform and focus on progressing in either
weight or reps from week to week.
If you want full, thick pecs, thats all there is to it!

Todays Topic: The King Of All Upper Body Exercises
==============================================
Okay Normz2, so youre looking to pack on some serious
muscle mass, right?
You want to build a ripped, rock-solid physique that demands
respect and turns heads everywhere you go, correct?
Today Im going to talk to you about one single exercise that
will help you to achieve that powerful body quicker than you
ever thought possible.
All you need is a good old-fashioned barbell and a flat
surface.
Load the bar with as much weight as you can handle and pick it
up off the ground while keeping your back straight.
Sounds simple enough, right?
Im talking, of course, about the undisputed king of all
upper body exercises: the deadlift.
If youre looking to pile as much lean muscle mass onto your
frame as humanly possibly in the shortest period of time, the
deadlift is your best friend in the entire world.
The deadlift will work you from finger to neck to toe. It is a
raw, basic power movement and will literally stress every
single muscle in your entire body to some degree.
The main areas of stimulation are the back (lower and upper)
and thighs, but once you start deadlifting on a consistent
basis youll see gains just about everywhere.
There a few different variations of the deadlift, but in this
article well focus on the basic, standard bent-legged
version.
Lets go over the proper technique...
Position your feet about shoulder-width apart and grip the bar
with your hands just outside your legs. You can either hold the
bar with an overhand grip or with one palm facing in and one
palm facing out. Choose whatever grip is most comfortable for
you.
Start the movement in a squatted position with the bar close to
your shins. With your back flat, abs tight and head looking up,
lift the weight off of the ground by driving upward with your
legs.
Pull the weight up until you are in a standing position. Now
lower the weight back down by following the same path as
when you lifted it.
Rest the plates on the ground briefly, regroup, take a deep
breath and pull the weight back up again. Continue the lift
until your legs reach muscular failure or until your form
starts to slip.
Maintaining proper form is of high importance when performing
deadlifts. You should be able to handle a reasonable amount of
weight here, and this increases your chance of injury.
The most important thing to remember is to keep your back flat
at all times and to keep the weight close to your body. Keep
your abs tight as well as this will minimize the stress on your
lower back.
Practice this lift with light weight in order to get the form
down before you start going heavy. You may also find it useful
to use lifting straps when performing deadlifts, as this will
prevent your grip from giving out before the rest of your body
does.
I recommend performing deadlifts once a week for 1-2 all-out
sets.
How many reps should you perform for each set?
Well, deadlifts are such an incredibly effective exercise that
theyll work no matter what rep range you use. My suggestion
is to stay in the range of 5-7, but some people go as high as 20.
Experiment and see what works best for you.
Treat your deadlifts with respect, and be prepared for the
gains of your life.

In every bloggers life comes a special day - the day they first launch a new blog. Now unless you went out and purchased someone else's blog chances are your blog launched with only one very loyal reader - you. Maybe a few days later you received a few hits when you told your sister, father, girlfriend and best friend about your new blog but that's about as far you went when it comes to finding readers. Here are the top 10 techniques new bloggers can use to find readers. These are tips specifically for new bloggers, those people who have next-to-no audience at the moment and want to get the ball rolling. It helps if you work on this list from top to bottom as each technique builds on the previous step to help you create momentum. Eventually once you establish enough momentum you gain what is called "traction", which is a large enough audience base (about 500 readers a day is good) that you no longer have to work too hard on finding new readers. Instead your current loyal readers do the work for you through word of mouth.Top 10 Tips 10. Write at least five major "pillar" articles. A pillar article is usually a tutorial style article aimed to teach your audience something. Generally they are longer than 500 words and have lots of very practical tips or advice. This article you are currently reading could be considered a pillar article since it is very practical and a good "how-to" lesson. This style of article has long term appeal, stays current (it isn't news or time dependent) and offers real value and insight. The more pillars you have on your blog the better. 9. Write one new blog post per day minimum. Not every post has to be a pillar, but you should work on getting those five pillars done at the same time as you keep your blog fresh with a daily news or short article style post. The important thing here is to demonstrate to first time visitors that your blog is updated all the time so they feel that if they come back tomorrow they will likely find something new. This causes them to bookmark your site or subscribe to your blog feed. You don't have to produce one post per day all the time but it is important you do when your blog is brand new. Once you get traction you still need to keep the fresh content coming but your loyal audience will be more forgiving if you slow down to a few per week instead. The first few months are critical so the more content you can produce at this time the better. 8. Use a proper domain name. If you are serious about blogging be serious about what you call your blog. In order for people to easily spread the word about your blog you need an easily rememberable domain name. People often talk about blogs they like when they are speaking to friends in the real world (that's the offline world, you remember that place right?) so you need to make it easy for them to spread the word and pass on your URL. Try and get a .com if you can and focus on small easy to remember domains rather than worry about having the correct keywords (of course if you can get great keywords and easy to remember then you've done a good job!). 7. Start commenting on other blogs. Once you have your pillar articles and your daily fresh smaller articles your blog is ready to be exposed to the world. One of the best ways to find the right type of reader for your blog is to comment on other people's blogs. You should aim to comment on blogs focused on a similar niche topic to yours since the readers there will be more likely to be interested in your blog. Most blog commenting systems allow you to have your name/title linked to your blog when you leave a comment. This is how people find your blog. If you are a prolific commentor and always have something valuable to say then people will be interested to read more of your work and hence click through to visit your blog. 6. Trackback and link to other blogs in your blog posts. A trackback is sort of like a blog conversation. When you write a new article to your blog and it links or references another blogger's article you can do a trackback to their entry. What this does is leave a truncated summary of your blog post on their blog entry - it's sort of like your blog telling someone else's blog that you wrote an article mentioning them. Trackbacks often appear like comments. This is a good technique because like leaving comments a trackback leaves a link from another blog back to yours for readers to follow, but it also does something very important - it gets the attention of another blogger. The other blogger will come and read your post eager to see what you wrote about them. They may then become a loyal reader of yours or at least monitor you and if you are lucky some time down the road they may do a post linking to your blog bringing in more new readers. 5. Encourage comments on your own blog. One of the most powerful ways to convince someone to become a loyal reader is to show there are other loyal readers already following your work. If they see people commenting on your blog then they infer that your content must be good since you have readers so they should stick around and see what all the fuss is about. To encourage comments you can simply pose a question in a blog post. Be sure to always respond to comments as well so you can keep the conversation going. 4. Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival. A blog carnival is a post in a blog that summarizes a collection of articles from many different blogs on a specific topic. The idea is to collect some of the best content on a topic in a given week. Often many other blogs link back to a carnival host and as such the people that have articles featured in the carnival enjoy a spike in new readers. To find the right blog carnival for your blog, do a search at http://blogcarnival.com/. 3. Submit your blog to blogtopsites.com. To be honest this tip is not going to bring in a flood of new readers but it's so easy to do and only takes five minutes so it's worth the effort. Go to Blog Top Sites, find the appropriate category for your blog and submit it. You have to copy and paste a couple of lines of code on to your blog so you can rank and then sit back and watch the traffic come in. You will probably only get 1-10 incoming readers per day with this technique but over time it can build up as you climb the rankings. It all helps! 2. Submit your articles to EzineArticles.com. This is another tip that doesn't bring in hundreds of new visitors immediately (although it can if you keep doing it) but it's worthwhile because you simply leverage what you already have - your pillar articles. Once a week or so take one of your pillar articles and submit it to Ezine Articles. Your article then becomes available to other people who can republish your article on their website or in their newsletter. How you benefit is through what is called your "Resource Box". You create your own resource box which is like a signature file where you include one to two sentences and link back to your website (or blog in this case). Anyone who publishes your article has to include your resource box so you get incoming links. If someone with a large newsletter publishes your article you can get a lot of new readers at once. 1. Write more pillar articles. Everything you do above will help you to find blog readers however all of the techniques I've listed only work when you have strong pillars in place. Without them if you do everything above you may bring in readers but they won't stay or bother to come back. Aim for one solid pillar article per week and by the end of the year you will have a database of over 50 fantastic feature articles that will work hard for you to bring in more and more readers. Hi Norm, Proper yoga music is essential to practicing yoga; it helps with the relaxation and meditation techniques, and can even be used outside of yoga for personal purposes. Yoga music works by using sounds that have a particularly integrating quality for the body and mind, and was first derived from the ancient musical system of India in order to help yoga practitioners to connect with and become aware of their bodies at the most deepest possible levels.
